Dirty language has filled our film industry. Not only are adult movies jam packed full of fowl language but children’s movies are too. It is really ridiculous, not only is fowl language found in nearly every movie but now many sexual innuendos are also being found in movies as well. For example on Tuesday the movie Transformers Two came out. My god son is six and very much into transformers, knowing that I was going to have him this weekend I purchased the movie. I figured it would be nice, and he would enjoy it. When I got home with the movie my boy friend excitedly insisted we watch it, so I agreed. BOY AM I GLAD I DID!! That movie that is clearly geared toward children had more swear words then some adult movies I have seem. Not to mention the sexual jokes and comments made throughout the movie. I would not let my six year old god son watch that movie! It is really sad because movie makers advertise these movies towards children, and then they pack them full of this filth. I mean its indubitable that this movie is advertised for children, walk down the toy isle as your local store I guarantee you will see isles full of transformer everything. I think the standards in which we rate and advertise movies should be totally revamped I mean if a movie is not rated G it should not be made to look appealing to children and if it is a movie to be seen by children in a way that transformers is, watch the language that is being used. I mean transformers are seen as super heroes of sort and to have these figures act in these negative ways it reinforces to children that this behavior is ok. That those words are not only okay but cool to use. This isnt only found in movies it is found everywhere. TV shows are equally bad, maybe even worse at least movies have ratings that parents see before watching the movie. Most the time partents do not catch the rating of the show that their child is watching. While some of this could be neglect, other time is just bad timing. You are washing dishes or tending to something and bam the rating flashes on the screen for a while 3.2 seconds. An not only the shows the advertisements and movie previews that run during these shows is atrocious. Times have sure changes sense the days of Happy Days, and The Wonder Years. I remember when those shows used to be risky, now they don’t even get a second glance its truly sad. While I believe change in society is good and growth is crucial why must that growth be at the expense of our youths innocence.

I agree with you that the use of vulgar language seems to be increasing in many movies and television shows. I also witnessed the obscene content of the second Transformers movie. However, I made the mistake of bringing my niece and nephew along with me. I was shocked by how the movie seemed to only be composed of vulgar language and sexual innuendos. Fortunately for me, my niece and nephew were too young to grasp the meaning of the sexual innuendos. I was greatly disappointed with the movie because it was not what I expected from a movie that was targeted towards children.
ReplyDeleteYou are right in stating that children will look up and embrace the things they see in films. In the case of Transformers, children may associate the language used in the film as being cool and use it in their speech. I can only imagine that this would infuriate parents because these are movies that are meant for children and have taken on traits of more mature rated movies. I have learned from my mistakes and the next time I take my niece and nephew to the movies, I will make sure that the film is suitable for them to watch.
The content in today’s television and movies is atrocious, not to mention what we hear on the radio and mainstream music lyrics. I completely agree that things of these nature should not be advertised to young children, however they are. What is on television, even on children’s networks is absolutely horrible. Ranging from the foul vulgar situations that are made to look funny all the way to over the top cartoon violence, what our youth is watching is becoming their reality. I agree with you that transformers, which is greatly marketed to young boys, has a lot of sexual innuendo’s, violence, and mature language that I would never want my young children to see. The way I see it is that there should be more warnings about the nature of movies and the content that is in them and they should not be advertised to inappropriate audiences.
ReplyDeleteFor me I am really happy that the times have changes and that is because our kids have changed as well. what I mean is that Kids are smarter they know what is going on my niece is five and my nephew is 10 they know what everything is. They know what is real and what is not and I think that people have this thought that kids do not know what they are seeing is real or not. The one things kids will do is ask question because that is the nature of our kids. I do not believe marilyn manson caused those kids to massacre those kids at the school in colorado and i do not believe violent games or movies makes kids violent. This is why parents must be there to explain what is real and acceptable as they grow up to be a good aspect of society. I think that as time changed so did the meaning of some movies.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am glad I heard about the Transformers movie. I was getting ready to buy the movie for my grandchildren. I agree with you that it is not only very sad but outrageous how far movies will go with fowl language, sexual inuendos and so forth. I am flabberghasted that they would put fowl language an sexual inuendos in a movie geared for a child to see. What has this world come to. Our own children are not safe from this filth. Who is minding the store? We can only do so much to see that our children are not exposed to this kind of filth, but you cannot always be there. My children were exposed to violent video games when they went to a friends house to play years ago. Trust me, if trash is out there, chances are your children will be exposed to it in one way or another.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that if a movie is not rated "G" then it should not be geared towards children and if a movie is geared towards children there should be no foul language or sexual inuendos or connotations in it. It is a very tough job for parents in this day and age not only to keep their children safe from predators, but to keep them from getting exposed to the trashy dirt that is out there. I am for freedom of speech and the First Amendment, but there should be more control of what our children are exposed to.
